Camps, Internships, & Opportunities

We currently use shared sheets to publicize opportunities for students. See:

Send information about opportunities to Marianne Stephens, College & Career Specialist.

Please note that we list opportunities as a courtesy rather than as an endorsement. Check out each offering agency thoroughly and investigate the programs well before signing on. Longstanding Programs

Shoreline Fire Cadet Program

Many Shorewood students and graduates have done this program, and all give it positive reviews. Apply now if you have even considered going into Fire Services.

Teens in Public Service Summer Internships

Every summer, TIPS sponsors paid summer internships with local nonprofit organizations. Applications are typically due in early spring.

Fly-In Programs

"Fly-In" programs are free or reduced-cost opportunities for seniors to visit colleges. Application timelines vary. Many, but not all, programs are intended for underrepresented populations and/or students who are the first in their family to go to college.

Check the details on each college's website; there are often both in-person and virtual programs. However you attend, one of these events is a chance to visit and get more detailed and personalized information than you would in a standard information session.

Search this list:  Fly-In and Diversity Programs by Cappex (may or may not be updated; check each college's website for the most up to date information), and also use this 2022 Rural & Small Town Fly-In Programs list. Though we are not rural, this list has good program summaries that may be useful even though it is from September 2022.

And, consult the websites of colleges that interest you for the most up-to-date information. If a college that interests you doesn't have a program, see if it has a virtual tour that will take you there for a few minutes.

About Summer University Programs

Please note that attending a university program will not increase your chance of admissions to that--or any other--college. If you wish to do a program for enrichment, go ahead. Do not regard it as a big plus on your resume. Colleges value work and volunteer experience as much or more than paid enrichment programs.
